PREVENTING THE SPREAD OF DENGUE FEVER
Dengue fever is a rapidly spreading disease in recent decades, transmitted by mosquitoes mainly in tropical and subtropical countries. The CSIRO has teamed up with scientists in Saudi Arabia to develop Project Wolbachia Jeddah. They are deploying a promising technology based on the use of Wolbachia bacteria that can play a major role in controlling dengue disease.
The results are wonderfully positive in Jeddah so far, where the incidence of dengue fever infections in humans is plummeting.
