SAVING LIVES WHEN THE POWER GOES OUT
Pneumonia is the biggest killer of children worldwide. Oxygen can be used to treat pneumonia – but to use oxygen you need power. In many remote communities around the world, electricity can be intermittent at best and non-existent at worst.
Researchers at Fully Renewable Energy Oxygen (FREO2) invented clever ways to increase access to oxygen. This project formed the basis of a significant fundraising campaign that enabled the rollout of FREO2’s innovations in countries – including Kenya and Uganda – where unreliable electricity is causing children to die.
